Kamar Ahmad Simon, Writer-Director
A poet in private, an architect by training… Kamar Ahmad Simon is an award-winning new-generation filmmaker from Bangladesh. Born in a traditional Muslim family and brought up in the old lanes of Dhaka, Kamar’s work tends a critical introspection of his time and surrounding. Bibliothèquenationale de France (the National Library of France), Johns Hopkins University USA has acquired his film and Conference of Youth (COY) in Paris, Royal Anthropological Institute (RAI) London have exhibited his work. His debut non-fiction ‘Are You Listening!’ brought him critical acclaims including ‘Grand-Prix’ at 35th Cinema du reel Paris, ‘Golden-Conch’ in Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF). For his first feature script ‘Silence of the Seashell’ Kamar was awarded with Göteborg International Film Festival Grant, and invited to La Fabrique des Cinemas Du Monde in Cannes 2014 as one of ten upcoming directors. Kamar won ‘The Asian Pitch’ (TAP) for two consecutive times for his television documentaries ‘Testimony of a Thread’ and ‘Blue Helmet’, both co-produced by four leading Asian Televisions, NHK from Japan, KBS form Korea, PTS from Taiwan and MediaCorp from Singapore. For ‘Day After Tomorrow‘, his work-in-progress 2nd part of the ‘Water Trilogy’ (1st part ‘Are You Listening!), Kamar has won the ‘Best Project Grant’ & ‘ARTE International Prix’ in Open Doors Hub and was awarded in the Piazza Grande of Loacarno Film Festival of 2016. For the passion of Independent Filmmaking, Kamar regularly contributes in local dailies and masterminded discourses where international filmmakers like Claire Denis, Victor Kossakovsky were invited to Bangladesh.

Sara Afreen, Producer
Sara Afreen is one of a handful of young producers from Bangladesh. She participated in EAVE European Producers Workshop and EP2C with scholarship from CNC and MEDIA Mundus respectively. She also participated in Produire au Sud in Nantes, and La Fabrique des Cinemas du Monde in Cannes 2014 with her first fiction project. Sara just finished production of a documentary co-produced by NHK (Japan), Mediacorp (Singapore), PTS (Taiwan) and KBS (South Korea) and working on a 2nd production with them. Sara graduated as an architect, and gathered diverse experience in creative production before enrolling into independent film production. She produced more than 30 top-rated television commercials working with top-notch ad-film makers of Bangladesh. She was selected as the ‘Producer of the Month’ by ‘European Documentary Network (EDN).
